Wildfires Safety Checklist

Record temperatures and high winds have caused wildfires to spread across the Western United States. The wildfires have ignited trees and caused damage to homes, while forcing others to evacuate.

Preparing for wildfires

Using social media, you and your family can prepare for the wildfires by monitoring Twitter for alerts and updates. Search for keywords such as wildfires and evacuate along with your location. Ensure you are prepared for evacuation and plan an escape route as well as temporary housing outside of your neighbourhood.

During wildfires

Prepare to evacuate as soon as officials instruct you to do so. Take a route furthest away from the fire hazard, and only let close friends and family know you left your home and where you are heading. Do not run, and organize a ride if you do not own a vehicle.

After wildfires

Once you reach safety, let your close and friends and family know that you are okay through Facebook or Path. Remain calm, ask for additional supplies if required, and do not return home until officials announce it is safe to do so.
