Summer Camping Tips for Your Family

Now that you’re using Ayoudo to get your to-do list done, you should have lots of free time to enjoy the outdoors, and why not spend it reconnecting with your family? Camping is a great way to spend the holidays and is a fun adventure for your kids.

Preparation

In preparation for the trip, start by getting inspired with creative Pinterest boards that are packed with camping ideas like cool camping spots, supplies, and even delicious recipes. Consider asking your friends on Facebook for useful tips and suggested locations – and if you see anyone else asking for ideas make sure to suggest packing a map and campus! Already packed a first-aid kit, but looking to borrow a water cooler or an extra tent? Ask the Ayoudo community for supplies or even get trusted help watering your flower beds while away.

Safety guidelines during camping and hiking

When camping it’s important to keep everyone hydrated, so be sure to remind your kids to frequently drink water. Use instagram or similar photo apps as a fun way to keep track of the times you stopped to drink as well as share your adventure with friends and family. Alternatively, you can check Flickr for photos of the campgrounds or trails to avoid dangerous spots unsuitable for kids or ask for help planning a route. In addition to wearing light and loose fitting clothes, apply sunscreen 30 minutes before the kids are exposed to sun and reapply every 2 to 3 hours (and always after any water activities). In order to monitor the weather, use your native phone’s weather app or use Twitter Search to stay informed of harsh weather conditions by searching for your location combined with heat wave, thunderstorm warning, or severe weather alert.

Getting help after an emergency

Planning and preparation for your trip minimizes risk, but in the case of a crisis be sure to call your the fire department, ems, police or 9-1-1. If you happen to be stuck with a flat tire or need assistance from a community that is ready to help, don’t hesitate to post on Ayoudo and ask for real-time help over the web or iPhone app.
