New research indicates that Vancouverites are suffering from a form of social isolation that is particular to the city. A recent Vancouver Sun story reads:
Newcomers to the city talk about going weeks without anyone offering to show them around or invite them for dinner. Apartment dwellers talk about distrusting their neighbours to the extent that they’re afraid to let their children play unsupervised outside.
A survey conducted by the Vancouver Foundation and released today found Metro Vancouver residents feel increasingly estranged from their friends, their neighbours and their communities.
via Social isolation has far-reaching effects on us and our neighbours, survey.
Part of the Ayoudo mission is to build better neighbourhoods by bringing people together. Whether it’s through our First Help Program, volunteer initiatives or our marketplace, Ayoudo is the place where people help each other. Hopefully we can play a part in trying to ‘fix’ Vancouver and helping it to build better communities.
